Common Difference

The constant difference between consecutive terms of an arithmetic sequence is called the common difference.

Example:

Given the arithmetic sequence 9 , 7 , 5 , 3 , ... .  
To find the common difference, subtract any term from the term that follows it.

d = 7 9 = 2

2 is the common difference between the terms.
