Breaking Down Big Words

Tackle Tricky Words

Some words are long or hard to read. Break them into smaller parts (syllables) to sound them out. Look for smaller words or familiar sounds inside big words.

This makes reading easier and helps you learn new words!

Examples

  • Breaking 'unhappiness' into 'un-hap-pi-ness' to read it.

  • Finding 'play' in 'playground' to figure out the word.
