I am a graduate of the University of Florida as well as the University of Washington, where I earned my Bachelors and Masters degree in Applied Mathematics, respectively. Since graduating, I have worked in different I.T. capacities such as Quality assurance and programming, but I have always made time to tutor students in math. Helping others to do math is one of my passions because I know how good it feels to go from "what is this math?" to "this actually makes sense!". Although I tutor all math courses ranging from 7th grade level through undergraduate level, algebra has to be my favorite math to tutor because I see it as the starting point of mathematics; it's the course where students are introduced to conceptual math. Getting a solid foundation in algebra affects all future math courses as well as science courses. Outside of tutoring, I like to work out, play blitz chess, and watch basketball and football.

I'm a graduate of Fordham University where I earned degrees in both Mathematics and Music. I have years of experience tutoring students from middle to high school in all subjects, especially English, Math, and French. In my free time, I love playing and listening to music, spending time with friends, and watching Netflix :)

When I was young, I realized that I thought differently about Mathematics than my peers. I read the textbook and instantly understood it. Meanwhile, they struggled for hours. Seeing my childhood friends struggle in this way tugged on my heartstrings the same then as it does to see this struggle in my adult friends today. Because of this, I have developed a great passion for helping other people understand complex ideas. I have a strong belief that the best thing for a society is the spread of advanced critical thinking skills, so any learning assistance I can offer someone is doubly satisfying to me in that way. I studied for two years at Georgia Tech working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, before having to withdraw for medical reasons. Through my work as a tutor, I intend to fund my return to collegiate education, although I am now interested in a degree more directly related to Mathematics. I enjoy tutoring many levels of Math, from basic Algebra all the way to mid-level Calculus. In fact, regardless of the topic at hand, I place a heavy emphasis on the importance of algebraic derivation, and understanding of Algebra in general. As they say, "Calculus is two steps of magic, and 30 steps of Algebra."

I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University studying Applied Mathematics and Economics, with a strong passion for helping students build confidence in math. As a Course Assistant for calculus, I work closely with students to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I focus on building a strong foundation while also helping students develop problem-solving strategies they can apply independently. Having worked with students at different levels, I understand that everyone learns differently, and I tailor my approach to fit each student's needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them feel more confident and capable in math.

Hi, I'm Laura! I graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics and a minor in sociology. There, I earned the Frances B. Huston award, the most prestigious award given to graduating students, for excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. From there, I became a student at the University of Washington (UW), earning my Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and a position as a PhD student in the department. I was also awarded the Carl S. Pearson award for academic excellence in the Master's program. I have been working as a PhD student since then, with expertise in all types of math including algebra, calculus, linear algebra, and numerical analysis, among others. I also have years of experience coding in both python and matlab! I spent three years as an undergraduate teaching assistant, helping teach both high school and college level math classes. I also taught multiple sections of calculus at the University of Washington as a Master's student, and I have served as a teaching assistant throughout my time at UW. My favorite thing about these positions were the opportunities to work one-on-one with students, developing new approaches to help them understand difficult concepts. I love coming up with new examples or intuitive ways of thinking through math problems. I think everybody can learn math, and I love helping students of all ages and backgrounds achieve their mathematical goals! I love math, and have a passion for sharing that love and knowledge. Progressing through courses of mathematics teaches much beyond what is on the page. It teaches problem-solving, critical and creative thinking. I try not only to teach the mechanics of math, but instill an appreciation for the skills the process can develop. And while math is my favorite subject to tutor, I have had training in and am qualified for all sections of SAT and ACT test prep, and enjoy working with students to help them learn and meet their college goals.
