Certified Tutor

I recently graduated from Kenyon College in rural idyllic Gambier, Ohio. I have my BA in Political Science with a concentration in Environmental Studies. I have also excelled in Math and Economics. I'm currently the coach of Lower Merion High School's boys Ultimate Frisbee team.

I'm a very intellectually curious and social person. I find joy in building meaningful relationships and helping others succeed. I really enjoy being a tutor and working with students.

As a tutor my goal is to provide the knowledge and support necessary to help my students learn from their mistakes. Mistakes signify conceptual holes that must be filled through a detailed understanding of a course's core material. I want my students to become fluent in the basic language of their subject. Once a student has mastered the foundational concepts he can intuitively comprehend more advanced material instead of relying on memorization. For example, a student working on trigonometry cannot effectively understand cotangents or complex trig inequalities until he/she is comfortable manipulating the sin, cos and tangent functions. I approach ACT test prep with a similar notion: in order to succeed the student must understand how the test wants you to err and have a strategy for dealing with each type of question. In all subject matter, my goal is to build an understanding that is intuitive by progressing with purpose and confidence.
