I believe in understanding the material instead of memorizing it. Once a concept has been understood, it can be applied in so many different ways, and it will never be forgotten.

In a first session with a student, I will usually find out the student's learning and studying style so that I can adapt my teaching style to their needs.

To stay motivated, a student has to have a final goal in mind. I'll work with the student to figure out that goal and devise study plans to reach that goal.

Everybody learns a different way. What works for some may not work for others. When a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, it just means that the tutor has to find a way to teach the subject in a manner that falls in line with how the student learns.

Just knowing how the student learns and what works best to engage them is one of the most successful tools in teaching.

It is so frustrating when a student can't grasp a concept, but once they do, that frustration turns into excitement because now they want to know what they can achieve with their new-found comprehension of the subject.

Visual aids are a great source of teaching. I like drawing out problems, or showing videos to explain a concept.

Students hate the subjects that they don't understand. Once they begin to understand it, it is the tutor's responsibility to expose them to problems that will test their understanding. Starting out with easy problems boosts the student's confidence and motivates them to try harder questions.

A tutor can adapt their teaching style to their student's needs by exploring how the student learns and grasps material. This is easily done by just asking a student to explain a concept. The student will usually explain it in the manner that they learned it. That alone will show how the student learns.

I love using visual aids such as drawings or videos to explain the material.

I can help a student become an independent learner by ensuring that the student understands the concept instead of merely memorizing information. In that way, the student feels comfortable to do studying on their own, and would not be overwhelmed if a tutor is not there to guide them through the subject.

I help students that are struggling with reading comprehension by allowing them to read a few sentences at a time, and then explaining out loud what they had just read. Using that method, I find that the students begin to develop a skill that makes it easier for them to understand the readings.

A student's needs can be evaluated by either asking them what they're struggling with, or working with them and paying close attention to the areas that they are most weak in.
