I really like helping students realize that they can get better at math, no matter how they feel about it. I think it is important to listen to what student's think and need, and then work with that to help them get the most out of tutoring sessions. My favorite aspect of working with students as a math tutor is helping them develop their number sense and building their comfort level with arithmetic which helps at all levels of mathematics. Having been a classroom teacher for six years, I have seen a variety of students and learned to work with them based on their specific needs. I studied philosophy as an undergraduate at Wheaton College in the suburbs of Chicago and received my MEd in teaching and learning at the University of Oregon. I have been a full time high school math teacher in Compton, CA, and Roseburg, OR. I have also substitute taught in Phoenix, AZ, and Salem, OR.
I recently moved to New York to pursue acting opportunities and have been fortunate to be in a few performances in the city already. I love theatre and music, but I also really enjoy sports. I have six years of experience coaching high school soccer, and spent one year as part of the coaching staff for the Linfield College women's soccer and men's basketball programs.
