What is your teaching philosophy?
First efficiency, then FUN!!!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know my student a bit and melt the ice!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By not making them rely on my help every step of the way.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By encouraging them and cheering them on as learning is taking place!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would do what I could to help them. I would do research to find out the best ways to do so.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I encourage them to approach the subject from a more pictorial and graphic angle.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Be friendly and make them feel like they are working with a friend as opposed to a teacher.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Find an appealing angle and approach the subject from there.

Making sure they are solving similar problems independently.

Encouragement and a positive attitude about it would do the trick!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By realizing their area of struggle and trying to modify it.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By adjusting my lingo and finding the right variety of texts/problems.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I would stick to the material that their school recommends.
