Ronald

Certified Tutor

I graduated from Rutgers Business School in the top 15% of my class, with my degree in Economics and Accounting. I have always been an overachiever and throughout my studies, I have been a source of knowledge for my peers and have taken a genuine interest in their success. I like to tutor because I get a great sense of achievement in knowing that I am helping a student get a better understanding of difficult material.

I can teach courses in business, such as accounting, finance, production management, etc., but I mostly enjoy teaching courses in economics, statistics, and math, because they are at the core of many business programs, and I think that it is very important to get a solid understanding of the basics before moving on to more advanced or technical courses.

My overall goal is for students to better understand their coursework, but more importantly I want to teach students to think outside of the box, be better problem solvers, and enjoy the learning process.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I like to teach by using relatable examples, by turning equations into word problems, and by illustrating problems graphically or pictorially. Different students learn different ways, so I use every weapon in my arsenal to help students understand the material.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would establish an understanding of where exactly a student is struggling, and what specifically the cause of the struggle is. I would do this by going through a set of problems and examining the students thought process. From there on, I would tailor a specific study plan in order for that student to better grasp the material.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

A vital skill for any student information retention. As a tutor I have to teach proper studying techniques, and note taking skills. I will also teach students how to logically work through problems, so they can be independent problem solvers.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I believe that for a student to stay motivated, the student must learn in a positive environment. Positive words of encouragement will help keep students motivated. Also students must be aware of their progress, so it will be important to have progress reports for students.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would provide relatable examples in order to provide a better understanding. I would also try to turn complex concepts and terminology into layman's terms in order to simplify the material.
