I have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Psychology. I believe any child can learn as long as we, as adults, are patient and kind when teaching and we find a way to make learning fun. I have ten years of experience, including with K-1 students. I have worked with students of all ages and thoroughly enjoy helping students learn and grow when struggling with English related subjects. It is important that students learn not only the content of their classes, but also how to study and prepare for academic success throughout their educational career. What is your teaching philosophy?

My personal philosophy is all adults need a child to teach to; it's how they learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first thing I would do is determine the child's ability and find out what they are interested in.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving him or her the tools required to learn on their own. First, by introducing materials that the child is interested in and applying it to the lessons that are required

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By always maintaining an upbeat personality, making lessons fun, and approaching each lesson with enthusiasm and encouragement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Depending on the level of that student, I will first try to determine what the problem is and try to provide real world solutions to whatever problems the student is having.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

By instructing the student with the necessary skills to be able to read effectively, and then to introduce materials that the child finds interesting and fun while using age appropriate response to the situation.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Usually asking questions about what the students wants and getting him/her to realize that their learning will take effort for both the student and the teacher.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I will help a student get excited, for example, by working with material they find interesting, finding out how the child best interprets information, and applying it in a way that the child can understand.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will make sure the students understand the material by insuring that they can actively respond and repeat the information back to me in their own words or demonstrate the ability to explain it to another student.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would build a student's confidence in a subject by making sure he/she understands the material and is able to present it thoroughly.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would evaluate a student's needs by finding what their problem areas are and providing an assessment to meet that student's educational needs.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would adapt the student's tutoring needs by making sure I have a clear understanding of the material and a individual educational plan to help that student reach their goals.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The type of materials used usually depends on the student's age, the subject and the problems that particular student is having.
