What is your teaching philosophy?

Support, service, and dedication best describe my educational philosophy. As an individual who works with elementary students each day, it is my belief that all students deserve a quality education that allows them to excel in the workforce and become productive citizens who leave better than they came. Students should leave the educational institution having been challenged to acquire new skills, with awareness of things outside their normal scope of accustomed ideas. It is my goal as an educational professional to provide a caring and creative environment where students can achieve their goals, as well as adapt to a set of principles that cultivate a passion for lifelong learning and understanding of the world aside from self.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Initial sessions are set aside to get to know the student, allow the student to get to know me, and set expectations as well as goals to be certain we are on one accord to achieve student success.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Students are innately equipped with the skills to be independent learners. They just need to be nurtured and taught how to tap into these skills. It is my job to provide students with the necessary tools to allow them to access self-motivation.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

My students are motivated through encouragement, involvement, reassurance, and creativity.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

When students have problems grasping specific concepts, it is important to scaffold learning and provide several different strategies and techniques to reach different types of learners.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

For students who struggle with reading comprehension, it is important to encourage them to begin by choosing a genre of literature that piques their interest. It is then that they can unlock comprehension and fluency because they are fully immersed in the text, making connections. They are ultimately engaged.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

To begin, it is necessary to gauge student abilities in an effort to address the immediate needs of the students and create personalized lessons that will meet their achievement gaps.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

In an effort to increase student engagement, it is often necessary to assess learning styles and create lessons that use the subject matter to speak to the individual.
