What is your teaching philosophy?

I am fully aware that no two students are the same, and that various teaching modalities should be employed to ensure a strong foundation for every student, regardless of their baseline level of understanding of the subject matter.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would gauge their level of understanding of the material at hand so that there's no gap in their knowledge of the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can teach them the various methods I have used to succeed in my studies, as well as provide other successful students study strategies.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By keeping them engaged and coming up with new ways of teaching to maintain their interest.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would ask them what their understanding is, and then continue to present the material in a different way until they understand the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would read various passages with them and work together with them until they develop a strong method of reading comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Depending on the subject, I like to keep the student actively engaged by asking them questions throughout the lesson.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would use props and visual aids to keep them engaged as well as have them try to teach me as we go.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would continue to ask them questions as we proceed.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would give them positive words of encouragement and be patient.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By asking what their goals are and ensuring they are met as we proceed forward.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I would use various learning modalities to meet their needs.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Books, white boards, videos, and drawings.
