I grew up in a bilingual/bicultural household with an Irish-American father and Venezuelan mother which caused me to become culturally and linguistically sensitive to two different worlds of customs and traditions. This upbringing gave me the opportunity to discover my passion for languages and cultures of not only my family's heritage but also of the world. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Masters Degree in Bilingual and Bi-cultural Studies. During college I studied abroad in Venezuela and Spain and had the chance to teach and tutor English. After studying abroad, I began teaching and tutoring English as a Second Language and Spanish at the high school and college levels. I believe in today's world it is important to know another language because it makes you an invaluable asset to society as you are able to reach many more people. With my education, work and life experience, one of my goals is help my students realize the limitless possibilities of being bilingual and tolerant of people different from them. My sole purpose in teaching is to figure out what the student's strengths, interests and learning styles are and build lessons around these components. Once a student understands and is aware of these, it makes learning fun, effective and successful! In my spare time I enjoy Latin dancing, spending time with family and friends, traveling and trying new activities and foods. I truly look forward to working with and getting to know you!
