About Me
For more than twelve years I taught English and language arts in grades 6 through 12 in public school and independent school. I prepared for teaching with an undergraduate degree in English from Georgetown University and a Masters in Arts from Boston University, focusing on English Secondary Education. Most recently, I taught sixth and seventh graders for five years at a local, prestigious independent school. Being a classroom teacher was extremely challenging and exciting, but I always wanted to have more time to work individually with students because they improve so much with that kind of personalized attention. I have lived and breathed improving students' reading, writing, and thinking for half of my life. What I have learned is that there is no one right way to teach all students. Everyone learns differently. Different methods, different materials, and different experiences capture young people's imaginations and can help them master the skills and materials. My teaching experience working with hundreds of students will enable me to do what is best for your student. I have children myself, and I know that personality plays a huge role in how we learn. I am excited to be a coach and cheerleader for your student to help him or her succeed.
