10+ years of tutoring
Tom
- I am currently a senior at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University training to become a Spanish teacher.
- In addition to my education in Spanish, I have also had training in English composition and teaching English as a second language.
About Me
I have tutored some of my college classmates in various subjects over the years and have roughly a year and a half of experience working in a high school teaching Spanish to students. My main area of expertise within my content area is Spanish literature of Latin America, but I also have extensive education in Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and culture. During my year and a half of teaching in high school classes, I have had the opportunity to teach several English language learners. I believe that I am able to help English language learners particularly well because I am open minded and see their native cultures and languages as assets rather than burdens. I use similar practices for both Spanish and English language learners. These practices include using pictures, PowerPoint presentations, music, and videos. I mix these with some more traditional practices (guided notes, advanced organizers, handouts), but I have found using technology to be one of the best ways to learn a language. I love to communicate with people and discover new ways of looking at the world from them. I hope that I can learn just as much from my tutees as they can learn from me.
