About Me

A good tutor can go a long way to make you feel more confident in your school work, better prepared for classroom assessments, and more focused on your academic goals. I want to be able to help you reach your goals--no matter what they are! I just graduated from the University of Connecticut Honors Program where I designed an interdisciplinary curriculum combining economics, political science, and sociology. I also minored in Human Rights and Urban and Community Studies. I graduated magna cum laude with a 3.8 GPA, a member of two honor societies, and a New England Scholar. I've been tutoring pretty informally since I started doing it after school for my high school's National Honor Society chapter, but I am my friends' go-to source for writing and reading help. I also have 4 years of experience with kids in a bunch of different capacities including as a camp counselor and as a nanny, so I know what kind of energy it takes to keep students engaged and having fun. My biggest priority is to make learning interesting for my students. What works for one student may not work for another, but everyone is capable of succeeding, even in subjects they struggle with. It just takes a little bit of extra time and energy to figure out how we can propel you forward. If you're willing to work with me, I think we can get you to achieve some of your toughest goals in school. Whether it's writing a really great paper, understanding a tough book, or preparing for a challenging exam, I hope we can teach each other a few things along the way!

Hobbies & Interests

I love anything i can do outdoors; Hiking, camping, running, and biking. I'm also a huge book-lover so if I can curl up with a good book, I'm happy.

Q&A with Emma

I think it's really important to teach students skills that they can apply to every assignment, not just the one they're working on now. My hope is that my students and I can sit down together, figure out where they need the most help, and then design a set of tools that they can use for the rest of your life. If their problem is grammar, I won't just rattle off a list of rules; I'll put together fun and engaging ways for them to learn. If they struggle with vocabulary, I won't hand them a stack of index cards; we will think of devices that will make them easier to remember and that you can use for new words that you encounter along the way. The goal is to teach students how to learn, not how to pass.
