- I am a longtime educator who has taught in both public and private school settings in California and Vermont.
About Me
As a middle grades public school teacher and administrator for 16 years in California, I specialized in English/Language Arts and Social Studies/History but also taught at various times, mathematics, drama, and physical education. Working in a grades 6-12 private school in Vermont for 12 years, I continued to teach middle grades English but also taught grades 9-12. I received my undergraduate education at the University of Maine where I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. I pursued my teaching certification at San Francisco State University and later earned a Masters in Educational Administration Degree from that same university. As part of a long career in education, I have always taken the time to work with students in need of additional help and support, believing that we all learn in different ways. My main area of expertise has always been reading comprehension, written expression, grammar, spelling, vocabulary development, study skills, research, and homework help. I have worked extensively in that role with English Language Learners, students with IEP's and 504's, and many others seeking to improve their comprehension and communication skills. I have found this type of individual work the most rewarding of my career.
Hobbies & Interests
I have many interests and hobbies, many of which are centered around the great outdoors and include: hiking, kayaking, swimming, and alpine skiing. Indoors activities include: reading, writing, playing guitar, streaming films and series, and cooking. I am also a handyman who has done extensive improvements to the old home I share with my wife. Just like an HGTV show!
