About Me

I have always loved education and working with my students, and knowing that I've helped the future leaders achieve their goals is rewarding. My other love is writing. I received a BA Degree in English from Southern Illinois University, a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on reading, and Doctorate classes in English at University of Houston. I have tutored students who needed help in composition writing at the college level; nurses who needed help reading medical texts in preparation for test-taking; high school students in writing essay; students needing help in editing essays focusing on grammar as well as content; high school students needing help in reading and understand assignments in different content area classes. I like to tutor any subject having to do with reading a task and understanding the task. I have tutored students needing help in writing essays in varying subject areas -- art, history, science, literature and composition. My teaching and tutoring philosophy focuses on success, so that the student can attain his or her goal. My students and I have a slogan: "Failure is not an option." Because no one takes a class because they want to fail it. At this point in my life, I am a writer. I have published one book; and I am completing another. I have also published short stories in an academic magazine. What do I do when I'm not reading or writing? I go to the movies with my family to see the latest "Star Wars" or "Marvel" or "DC" movies, and then we debate over dinner which superhero is the best. Well, I'm not going to tell you now, which ones I like the best. You'll have to talk to me to find that out!
