- I am a retired Iowa teacher, who has decided after only one semester removed, I miss teaching!
About Me
I have had the privilege of being in a classroom for the last 33 years. Twenty-four of these years were with 7th and 8th grade English/Language Arts. The last seven years of my teaching was as a Reading and Math interventionist with K-5 students. I enjoyed this immensely as I provided students the tools to gain reading and math skills. I have had multiple trainings and certifications throughout my years in education with my more recent being in Reading Recovery, Jolly Phonics, Really Great Reading, Lexia, The Write Tools, and Bridges, (math intervention). Just after retirement I was fortunate to gain a position as a college English tutor. Basic writing, Composition I and Composition II were my main areas of tutoring. I loved working with post high school students and would have stayed at this position but I have recently relocated to Florida. I gained my BS in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement from Iowa State University and my MS from Western Illinois University in Special Education. I also have over 45 post graduate credits from various universities. I thought I was ready to retire and sit on the beach, but I still feel the need to connect with students and believe tutoring will give me the opportunity to do just that!
Hobbies & Interests
As a recent resident to Florida, I have taken up pickleball, walking on the beach and kayaking. I will never lose my love of reading or throwing an hors-d'oeuvre party.
