About Me
I am passionate about education and enjoy supporting others in their pursuits to learn new knowledge and skill sets. I have an Associate of Arts degree in Communications, a minor in Spanish Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with a focus on culture, politics and economics in Latin America and the Caribbean. I earned my education at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. My course of studies was inspired by my love for travel. I have always been eager to discover new ways to improve my interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, enhance my understanding of international issues, and, depending on the country and region, fine-tune my Spanish language skills. For example, while studying abroad in Spain, I interned at an organization that provided social and educational support to single parent and immigrant families. Most recently, I worked as a Sustainable Tourism Coordinator in rural Peru at a non-profit whose mission is to uplift indigenous artisans by both creating opportunities and connecting them to opportunities for economic advancement. For over six years, regardless of my location or professional and educational pursuits, I have always engaged in some form of teaching. I have experience in teaching Spanish, English, dance, yoga, and life skills to individuals of various ages and backgrounds and I am happy to continue doing so via Varsity Tutors. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, discovering new podcasts and music, and participating in cultural events.
Hobbies & Interests
With a life-long background in dance and creative movement, one of my biggest interests and favorite hobbies is to engage in different forms of expression through movement. While I no longer sport the traditional tights and leotard, I enjoy taking and teaching a variety of latin dance, contemporary, and yoga classes and workshops. I also enjoy participating in cultural events that involve music, art, storytelling, and opportunities to learn about other peoples and places. One of my favorite daily pastimes include reading a combination of educational resources for personal and professional growth, as well as reading children’s books to family. I also love to listen to inspiring podcasts and new music, primarily in the Spanish language. When the sun is shining, you can find me hiking local trails with my furry friend, Charlie!
