Amanda
- My name is Amanda, and I'm a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
- In my own coursework, I've often been the person classmates text when they're stuck before an exam or lab report.
About Me
I've spent the last few years living deep in math, science, and engineering, everything from calculus and differential equations to genetics, fluid dynamics, and systems modeling. Along the way I've found that I enjoy explaining the "why" behind problems just as much as solving them myself, which is what draws me to tutoring with Varsity Tutors. I'm used to breaking down dense material, building step-by-step roadmaps through practice problems, and turning intimidating topics into patterns that actually make sense. In research and internship settings, I've also had to translate complex technical ideas into clear language for people with very different backgrounds, which has strengthened my ability to meet students where they are. My tutoring style is patient, structured, and collaborative. Early on, I like to figure out how a student thinks, what they already know, where the gaps are, and what their goals and timelines look like. From there, I focus on building a strong conceptual foundation, then layering in strategies for problem-solving, test-taking, and independent study so that they leave each session more confident and more capable of tackling work on their own. Ultimately, I want students to feel that they have someone in their corner who genuinely cares about their progress. Helping a student go from "I'm just not a math/science person" to "I can actually do this" is one of the most rewarding experiences I know, and I'd be excited to bring that energy and support to Varsity Tutors.
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of school, I really value staying active and creative. I lift weights and walk most days of the week, and I love getting outside to hike when I can. At home, I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes for friends and family, and I’ve gotten into slower, creative hobbies like crocheting and photography. I also love watching basketball, soccer, and pretty much any sport. I love hanging out with friends over games or movie nights. In general, I gravitate toward anything that lets me learn something new, build a skill over time, and share it with people I care about, which is a big part of why I enjoy tutoring.
