About Me

I spent 20 years in elementary and middle school classrooms. For 18 of those, I was a founding teacher and Vice Principal at KIPP Academy Houston. During that time, I learned a key lesson: great teaching begins with imagining what it's like to be in the student's shoes. When a student is stuck, the problem is rarely just confusion. It can feel defeating. My approach is to find the exact moment where the confusion began, go back there together, and help them unpack it. I focus on changing "I don't get this" into "huh, I get it." My sessions are rigorous and structured, and also filled with humor. I won the KIPP National Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award twice and was profiled in "American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom." Yet I am most proud that the majority of my students went on to become the first in their families to attend college.
