I spend a lot of time hiking and doing backcountry travel, which connects closely to my work as a ranger and guide. I’m especially interested in nature writing, travel writing, and folklore, and how stories and history are tied to the landscapes around us. I read widely, from historical fiction to narrative nonfiction, and I’m always happy wandering through museums or cultural sites. And, probably not surprisingly, I tend to turn even a short walk into an impromptu history lesson, at least for myself.
