Hi, I'm Meghan Anderson ("Meggie," for short.) I hold a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology and English. I hold Michigan Teaching Certifications for both general and special education, K-8th grade. Throughout my years of experience teaching and tutoring, I've crafted a teaching style which focuses around three pillars: 1. Teacher/Student connection and prioritized rapport 2. Curiosity-driven, collaborative learning and frequent student self-reflection 3. Learning strategies rooted in both research-based educational and psychological practices I believe that learning works best when it's collaborative, joyful, and tailored to the individual student. When students enjoy their time in our sessions, their confidence grows, their willingness to try increases, and their academic progress accelerates. I have a creative mind, I am very accommodating, and if your learner struggles to understand a topic, I excel in coming up with a variety of ways to instruct them so that they will understand and be successful. I encourage students to reflect on their own learning. At the end of each session, we do a quick wrap up where they share things like what strategies helped them most, what felt challenging and what they'd like to adjust next time. This helps them master the material and develop a strong sense of their own learning style, a skill that supports them far beyond our tutoring sessions. While tutoring often focuses on academics, research shows that a student's emotional experience plays a major role in how they learn. My background in psychology helps me understand each student's unique personality, motivation, and needs. I use that insight to create a supportive environment where students feel safe, capable, and excited to grow. We can't always choose what we learn, but in my lessons we always choose how we learn. Together, we will figure out the right concoction of tools and strategies for your educational needs.

In my free time, I enjoy doing musicals and plays at my local community theater. My rescue pup, Juneau (or "Junie," or "June Bug," or "Ju-Ju,") and I go adventuring on various trails or relax by lounging on the beach, her with a stick in her mouth and me with a book in my hand. Along with a good beach book, I like to read just about anything, anywhere, at any time.
