Studying isn't always helpful. At least that's what I believed during the beginning of high school. I thought that the simply fact of me writing notes was helpful enough to allow my brain to retain the knowledge I needed. Yet, when it got to the test it was as if I never studied in the first place. It was aggravating for me, I was putting in the time to write notes and read them once because that what I was led to believe was enough studying. I continued to write notes then read them a couple days before the test and continued to feel disappointed after, until halfway through my sophomore year where I vented to my English teacher that maybe my brain just couldn't retain information like everyone else's. She sat with me and said that's exactly it and in the moment I took it as an insult that I wasn't smart enough, until she explained that not everyone can study the same and get the same results by the end of it. So, she gave me a solution. She told me try these three different ways of studying for the next three test and figure out which one gives you the best results. And ever since that day I have found that for me and my brain to fully comprehend a topic, I have to write notes in class read them and rewrite them, over, and over again leading up to the test for me to fully allow myself to succeed. Now, as a senior in high school I am no longer dreading the test day, I am excited to concur it because I know I will succeed with rewriting notes.
