Algebra Regents

Throughout my life, I’ve never really struggled with math but during my freshman year, the algebra regents was my biggest struggle in math as a subject. I failed by only a question which was only 2 points. During that time, you only needed a 55 to pass the regents due to covid-19. I was bummed by the fact that I couldn’t pass the algebra one regents. The main reason why was due to the fact that my plans for the summer had to be changed.

Consequence: Losing part of the summer due to the algebra regents bothered me a lot. Everyone around me passed except for myself at the time. My family's plans were going to change due to failing on the regents. Over the summer break, I was determined to pass the regents the second time. I got a tutor to help me achieve my goal of passing. On the day of the retake of the regents, they placed me into a different school to take the test. I failed again which was weird due to the fact they didn’t give the score that I received back but they said I received a 53 which I was still two points away from passing and this time I was upset. I studied all that time and put all my effort into passing just to fail again.

Lesson: My first two times that I failed the regents really misguided me in believing that I could pass my algebra regents. I felt like I wouldn’t pass my regent at all. But during my sophomore year I retook the algebra 1 regents for the third time I passed with a 57. All the hard work and multiple failures I encountered affected me to retake it and come back better than the last time.

Now: Since I’ve passed my algebra 1 regents everything that has affected me in the past of my two failures are gone. I never struggled with math before so failing a regents changed my view of things. All the months of hard work changed me as a person. If I want something or become something I have to put the effort and work in order to achieve it. Even though it took me multiple tries I never gave up. I wanted to pass my algebra regents, and I took the time and dedication to pass.
