Where will I be in a decade? by Gabriana - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now, a long time away, I envision myself being at the start of my rewarding medical career at 30 years old. If all goes according to my academic and career goals, as a lot can happen within a decade, I will have earned my bachelor's degree in Global Public Health and Biology, have taken 1-2 years of gap year to gain more clinical experience while also traveling to Europe and enjoying free time before graduate school, earn an MD and Masters of Public Health and specialize in a residency for Pediatric Dermatology. I see myself being surrounded by my family and loved ones who have supported me and helped me throughout my career journey, as well as living the dream of owning a house, wherever that place may be.

To be an excellent doctor, you must have a well-rounded education and even more excellent knowledge of your specialty of choice. My education at New York University exposes me to courses about science, public health, and society, as well as writing skills and diverse minds from peers and professors, preparing me for reality after my educational journey ends. It teaches me discipline and to hold myself accountable so that I can display myself through my quality of work. I am confident that to succeed in your career, no matter what field you pursue, being a student is the leading role in how you will present yourself in your career. As a student, I strive to perform well on exams, stay on top of my schedule, use time management skills to the best of my ability, and display myself as a student with a strong work ethic. I believe that education is the key to success and that it prepares you for your future career and the life ahead of you. With my determination to succeed academically, I will strive to live a successful life in the coming decade.
