All Are Welcome by Genevieve - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I were running for student body president, the number one way I would like to positively impact my school is by creating a more welcoming community for everyone, where we can all feel a sense of belonging and individual place. I am someone who struggles when placed in new situations. Meeting new people is difficult, as is joining new activities. That is why I work hard to always be the person that is there for everyone, reaching out my arm, and welcoming all. If I could implement a service that would serve to help people form friendships and join activities with similar minded people, many students would be uplifted by finding their own place within the school community. Throughout my time in high school, I have learned that many, including myself as an underclassmen, are scared to join clubs and activities, because from the outside, it's hard to imagine ever feeling apart of something as we watch these other students laugh and smile together. However, these student groups are actually made up of some of the nicest people I have met, and they are always looking for new people. When I joined theatre, it was my number one goal to make sure that others who were not involved could come to me and realize that they also had a place in this activity. I did the same with swimming, and was treated the same when I joined synchronized swimming. It is hard to branch out of our comfort zones, especially when it involves meeting new people, but these experiences have proven to be some of the most rewarding, and I would love to share this message with others at my school, which would hopefully result in greater participation, less fear and anxious feelings, and more friendships.
