My Journey, So Far and So Soon by Karla - November 2024 Scholarship Essay
As I’ve aged, I have had many ideas about what to answer when someone asks, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” A vet, or a pilot, or an author, or even a math and perhaps dance teacher, but I’ve finally, satisfyingly settled on a detective. My education has been a guiding star in this journey, offering me countless opportunities and assistance in this decision to give me every option and idea I could ever ask for. My teachers have made me the person I am proud to be, and I intend to continue my journey through college to enter into the workforce promptly and at my best.
I have always been a fast learner and teachers have always been favoring me, which I have never taken for granted and greatly appreciate in turn. Teachers work so hard for so little more than successful pupils, but all of my teachers have offered to me dedication and taught me invaluable perseverance in emotional turmoil and mental stress during straining work periods. These skills will follow me to the workforce and put me ahead, and if it weren’t for my teachers over the past 12 years, I wouldn’t be the hard worker I am today and will be in college.
My goals are to enter the workforce for steady income as soon as possible to support my parents while still catering time for my music, and to do this I intend to attend college for 4 years for a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Music, ideally in an honors college program, to join the workforce right out of school. If I can join the honors college, I hope I can achieve a higher level of education to enhance my understanding of my major so I have the best qualifications into forensics and lab settings. My musical upbringing is dear to my heart, so I intend to continue my journey as a performer into the adult world alongside my professional career. With my musical qualifications, I want to find time to play with symphonies and professional groups, and especially my siblings. My brother has an ensemble and orchestra for media composition and my sister is in the movie industry, so I hope I could join their endeavors to give back for all they’ve done for me to keep me happy over the years.
I know I’ve had a very lucky childhood to have loving parents and siblings, with teachers I adore and will never forget the impact they’ve had on my life. My teachers have been the backbone of my education and what they’ve provided for me will always be with me as I go to college for forensics, criminal justice, and music for my career and life after school. Most of all, I hope to support my family in return for the opportunities I’ve been provided in my life, as I wouldn’t be anywhere without the people who have had my back for all my experiences, and I know always will be.
