Why is there such a push on the younger generations to obtain a piece of paper with a fancy signature? I find myself contemplating that decision as my To-do list for college feels never ending, but always remember what I am working towards. A college degree is more than just a piece of paper, it’s the start of a new chapter in a person’s life. It allows for a person to grow, use critical thinking skills, and provides unique networking opportunities.

No one is holding your hand in college. It is your responsibility to learn to manage your time, knock out homework, find time for personal development, as well as stepping into the work force you have been working towards. While this may be a challenging task to balance, it is so beneficial to grow as an individual figuring out what you need to do to be successful and explore your interests. College offers a bunch of job opportunities, clubs, and a campus to explore.

I strive to be a lifelong learner. The time we have on Earth is limited with countless new scientific and personal discoveries made everyday. I think it's so fascinating how we live in a world where everybody is on their own course but at the end of the day we all impact one another in some aspect. While yes, there are plenty of resources to learn anything with a touch of a mouse I feel like it's very limiting. College classes will explore and dive deeper into topics with hands-on opportunities and chances to actually pursue your ideas. This would allow me to make my impact on the world and those around me.

Can’t I just meet people in my regular, day-to-day life? Absolutely but it is much harder to make those connections. In college, I will be in classes with people who are majoring in the same field as me but not applying for all the same companies. This allows me to not only build connections with my peers, but also find other fields of work that can provide me with unique job opportunities. You are surrounded in an environment with different people than the last 18 years of your life, bringing you new perspectives about the world, provided tips and tricks, and networking opportunities. I will also meet countless professors and attend job fairs that would not be an option for kids not going the college route.

I have intentions of going to A&M for business and am excited for this opportunity! I know it will be a brand new chapter of my life that I'm thrilled to write. I cannot wait for the day I earn my fancy piece of paper and signature because I know it’s just a representation of all the opportunities and experiences I have gained.
