The teacher that played a part in saving me by Olivia - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

Last year, I started a new school. I didn't really have any friends and was kind of lonely. I had this English teacher, Mrs. Borger, who went out of her way to check on me and make me feel seen. I would sit in the library during lunch because I had no friends to sit with, and I had no one to talk to during my classes. I was very secluded and antisocial. Her efforts to check on me made such a difference when I was feeling lonely and overwhelmed. She helped me focus on school work to keep my grades up, and she would try her hardest to try and make me laugh and at least have a little joy in my school day. She eventually went out of her way to try and help me make some friends. The few girls that I met, I got pretty close to. Mrs. Borger still made sure to check up on me and make me laugh every now and then. She truly helped me feel seen and valued, and I am incredibly grateful for her encouragement during that terrible time in my life. I thank her every day for the big impact she had on my life. She saved me when I needed it most.
