Strongly Intelligent by Tahj - October 2025 Scholarship Essay
Growing up, I admired Hermione Granger from Harry Potter not only for her intelligence, but for her grit and determination to use it with purpose. At first, I thought she was the annoying know it all who always wanted to be right, and things to go her way. As I grew and followed her journey, I learned that real intelligence goes far beyond grades or perfect answers. Hermione taught me that knowledge means nothing without empathy and courage. She was never afraid of a challenge and stand alone when everyone else stayed silent. Whether defending house elves or standing by her friends in the hardest moments. From her, I learned that leadership and resilience isn't about being the smartest or strongest in the room but about using what you know to uplift others. I realized that being "smart" means balancing logic with heart, and knowledge to make a difference not just to impress others. Today, I try to live by that lesson. I study hard, but I also tutor younger students, volunteer, and look for ways to help others feel confident in their own abilities. Hermione showed me that education doesn't end in a classroom, it's about character, courage, and compassion. Those are the values I plan to carry into college and beyond.
