Revive the Voice by Temitayo - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

My name is Temitayo Adewale, and If I was running for student body president, the number one way I would positively impact my school is by making sure my podium is a microphone for everybody else’s voice. A struggle I’ve noticed a majority of students face is speaking up for themselves and sharing what they have to contribute. I know this because I lived like that for years, constantly feeling that what I have to say is worthless because those around me had so much more to say or were just so much more better than me at voicing their thoughts. It wasn’t until I saw the fruit that was produced from me sharing what I have to say that I noticed I truly have something special to share. I would share my input in class and notice how those who would usually not speak would resonate with my points. As I grew in confidence going into high school, I began to speak my mind and noticed how I encouraged others around me whenever I would speak. The feeling of awakening someone’s confidence is so fulfilling even though it's a selfless thing that I may not gain much from, it means a lot for me to be able to elevate people out of a mental obstacle I lived in for so long. That’s why my friend and I decided to start our school club. It is a club that gives room for the unheard to be heard, for the lost to be found. It is a blessing to be able to be trusted with such a role, and I am forever grateful for the feedback we receive from students. We received a comment from a girl who joined our club last year saying “This club changed my life.” That alone makes it all worth it. Therefore if I was running for student body president, I will make sure all are heard and seen, that all will know their voice is valuable.
