Ratios, proportions, and introductory equations are the bridge between arithmetic and algebra, and how a student crosses that bridge shapes everything that follows. Will identifies the exact misconception slowing a student down — whether it's fraction operations or translating word problems into expressions — and clears it up before moving forward.

Every middle school math concept — from fraction operations to coordinate graphing — has its own vocabulary and its own logic. I am a rising senior at Wellesley College majoring in Music and American Studies. During my first year at college, I started tutoring students in grades K-12 at the Mathnasium center in Wellesley, MA. The following two years, I tutored my peers taking courses in American Popular Music, Jazz Music Theory, and Jazz History. I am an aspiring applied mathematician, with particular interest in image processing and climate science. I graduated in May 2017 from Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's in physics and mathematics, and am beginning a PhD program in September 2017 at the University of Chicago in Computational and Applied Mathematics.
