I'm available to tutor biology, chemistry, physics, math from Algebra up through AP Calculus, SAT test prep, and French. I've been tutoring students in science and math for 7 years. I also spent 8 months working and studying in France, and have tutored high school and adult students in French. When I'm not working or studying, I love playing volleyball (indoors or on the beach!) and spending time outside, canoeing or hiking with my dog. I look forward to meeting and working with you!

I am passionate about both. I have been a teaching assistant, tutor, researcher, guest lecturer, researcher, and am currently a practicing engineer.
I'm a junior at Yale University pursuing a double major in Linguistics and Theater. I have experience tutoring in a variety of subjects, but I'm particularly excited to help students with writing, critical reading, and SAT or ACT preparation. I had a strong support network of teachers and mentors throughout middle and high school, so I understand firsthand the importance of thoughtful, individualized educational enrichment. I seek to meet each student where they are in order to help them reach their greatest potential! When I'm not tutoring, you might find me performing improv comedy, playing saxophone, or trying to write the next great American musical.
I'm a senior undergraduate at Yale University studying biomedical engineering and will be starting my Ph.D next year. I was born and raised in Philadelphia and have travelled to a few other countries through study abroad programs and international conferences. I've been to China several times and love to practice my Chinese with others!
I am an avid student and teacher in science, business and the humanities. I look forward to speaking with you!
I am deeply passionate about tutoring and teaching more generally. Knowledge has allowed us to build skyscrapers and fly to the moon, and to learn more about the human condition - it is my ultimate aim to be a clear, concise, and motivating educator.
I am a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a concentration in Molecular and Cell Biology and minored in chemistry. During my time at UPenn, I had the pleasure of serving as a mentor for a College Achievement Program, where I utilized my time to help my pre-med and engineering students face their science courses, among other things. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Biology and Chemistry. My experience of preparing for the MCAT exam (and scoring in the 94th percentile) motivated me to help other students struggling to prepare for this Standardized Test. I am very passionate about learning and obtaining knowledge and believe it to be absolutely necessary in order to thrive in every aspect of your life; therefore, I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students with patience and dedication.
I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Drexel University College of Medicine. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience and I am pursuing a residency in internal medicine. Teaching has been a passion of mine for nearly a decade. I have tutored at the high school, college, and medical school level in many math and science subjects and for the SAT, MCAT, and USMLE. I have tutored one on one and in classes of up to 40 people. The greatest joy in teaching for me is watching a student succeed at their goal whether it is getting a good grade in class or passing a dreaded test separating you from your next level of schooling. I focus on motivating and adapting to each individual students strengths and weaknesses. I hope to tailor my skills to suit you in the best way possible. I believe that self-confidence and thorough preparation ensure success with any subject. In graduating from medical school I have been through it all from the pressure of AP tests to studying all night for a college final to wrangling with the MCAT. I am here to provide all of my knowledge and experience to you and to help you achieve all the goals you have set forward in any way possible. Let me join you on the next step of your journey.
I am currently a first-year medical school student. Prior to med school, I graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering and received my Master's degree in Biomedical Studies from Drexel College of Medicine. I have over 6 years of experience tutoring individual students and also worked as a teaching assistant at the graduate school level. I am passionate about teaching and working with students. I have experience working with high school, college and graduate students and have a subject expertise that include Biology, Physics, Math, Physiology, Biochemistry.
Howdy! My name's Joey, I love all things music and tech as well as hitting the gym. I hold degrees in mechanical and aerosapce engineering as well as scientific computing from the University of Glasgow and University of Pennsylvania. I've been an instructor and TA at both institutions and I greatly enjoy sharing knowledge!
I am a recent graduate of Drexel University, in which I obtained a BS in Biological Sciences with a concentration in organismal physiology. During my college years, I was a peer tutor who would help struggling classmates in many math and science subjects. I also served as a merit badge counselor in my Boy Scout troop, teaching scouts (ages 12-17) in subjects such as First Aid and Emergency Preparedness. These experiences inspired me to continue this passion, striving to make learning a fun, insightful, and a lifelong process while helping students learn in the easiest and most effective way possible. My favorite subject to teach is math, specifically the SAT/ACT math sections. As someone who values education and intellectual curiosity, I hope to impose this same philosophy on my students. In my 7+ months working with Varsity Tutors, I have found profound satisfaction in helping students to the top of their class and increasing their test scores. I am a very flexible tutor willing to work around students' schedules.
I am majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in Data Science and a minor in Math. During my time in college, I have tutored and taught underserved students in Computer Science whether they were prepping for the AP exam or first time coding. As humans get technologically more advanced, I am a firm believer in introducing Computer Science earlier in education. Computer Science can be used in almost every field out there. Although I have a plenty of experiences teaching Computer Science, I have also tutored students in STEM subjects, in particular math and physics.
I am a recent graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Womens & Gender Studies. Having been a science nerd throughout high school, I knew that I would want to study biochemistry at university, but I also wanted to strengthen my writing, analytical, and research abilities in a non-scientific context. So focusing on both was perfect for me because I was able to develop analytical and problem-solving skills in two very different contexts. Having this background also allows me to feel comfortable tutoring a range of subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions
AP Physics covers two main tracks: AP Physics 1 (algebra-based) and AP Physics 2 (algebra-based continuation), or AP Physics C (calculus-based). Both include mechanics, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism, and modern physics. The exam tests your ability to apply physics principles to real-world scenarios, not just memorize formulas. A tutor can help you master the specific topics your course emphasizes and identify which areas need extra practice before the May exam.
Score improvement depends on your starting point and how consistently you engage with tutoring. Most students see meaningful gains—typically 1-2 points on the AP scale—when they focus on weak areas and practice problem-solving regularly. The key is identifying exactly where you struggle (conceptual understanding vs. calculation skills vs. test strategy) and targeting those gaps. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who can diagnose your specific challenges and create a focused study plan.
Students often struggle with free-response questions, which require both problem-solving and clear communication of your reasoning. Mechanics and circular motion trip up many students early in the course, while electricity and magnetism tend to be challenging later on. Time management during the exam is another common issue—the multiple-choice section moves quickly, and free-response questions demand careful setup and calculation. A tutor can help you work through these specific pain points with targeted practice and strategies for tackling unfamiliar problem types.
Effective strategies include: reading free-response questions carefully before diving into calculations, sketching diagrams to visualize problems, checking units throughout your work, and managing time by tackling easier questions first. On multiple choice, eliminating obviously wrong answers increases your odds even if you're unsure. Practice tests are essential—they help you get comfortable with question formats, identify timing issues, and build confidence. Tutors can review your practice test performance to pinpoint where strategy improvements will help most.
Ideally, you'll engage with tutoring throughout the school year as you learn new topics, rather than waiting until spring. This ongoing approach helps you build a strong foundation and catch gaps early. If you're starting closer to exam day in May, even 8-12 weeks of focused tutoring can significantly improve your score by targeting your weakest areas and intensive practice. The earlier you start, the more time you have to master difficult concepts and take multiple practice tests.
Your first session focuses on assessment and planning. A tutor will review your current understanding, discuss your goals, and likely have you work through a few practice problems to identify your strengths and weak areas. This might reveal conceptual gaps, calculation mistakes, or test-taking issues. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of what to focus on and a personalized study plan that fits your timeline and learning style.
Expert tutors working with Varsity Tutors have strong backgrounds in physics—often with degrees in physics, engineering, or related fields, plus proven teaching experience. Many have helped dozens of students improve their AP Physics scores. When you connect with a tutor, you can review their background and experience to ensure they're the right fit for your needs and learning style.
Varsity Tutors connects Philadelphia students with expert tutors who understand the AP Physics curriculum and can work with your schedule. Whether you attend a school in one of Philadelphia's 91 school districts or are preparing independently, personalized 1-on-1 instruction adapts to your pace and focuses on the topics where you need the most help. You can start with a few sessions to see if it's a good fit, then adjust your frequency as you approach exam day in May.
