I've spent 6 years tutoring K-College-level students in a variety of subjects, from ACT and MCAT to neuroscience and basic reading. My job is to find where the confusion actually started and make a plan. We work through it out loud until you can explain it back to me. Students leave my sessions not just with the homework done, but knowing how to attack the next problem on their own. I graduated from Ohio State with a 3.96 GPA, 34 ACT and a 517 MCAT score.

I am currently a medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern. I completed a major in Biology with a triple minor focus in Chemistry, Sociology, and Medicine and Society. During my undergraduate career, I tutored hundreds of students through my work with the American Chemical Society, LAUNCH, and Scholars Enrichment Program. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I have recently taken my MCAT and I would love to help you prepare for that especially if you need help with Chemistry based questions. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests such as the ACT and the MCAT, I always find new ways to engage my students and make testing strategies more accessible to them. I believe the best way to learn is to teach. Therefore, my main teaching strategy will be filling any knowledge gaps and allowing you the opportunity to re-explain material in order to ensure you will remember it.
Ning earned her Doctor of Medicine degree, which means she didn't just study MCAT content — she applied it through years of medical training. She breaks down each section's strategy differently, from amino acid structure questions in the Biological Foundations section to passage-based reasoning in CARS, treating the exam as four distinct challenges rather than one monolithic test. Rated 4.9 by students.
Hi! My name is Chelsea and I'm a current medical student passionate about making difficult topics understandable to all students. I believe that catering how I teach to different learning styles and making real world connections helps to break down challenging subjects. I specifically enjoy teaching subjects related to science, reading comprehension, and psychology but I have a strong background in many subjects.

Over 12 years, I've coached 1,500+ students to massive score jumps15+ MCAT points, 20+ LSAT pointsand earned seats at Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and beyond. I don't drown you in content. I teach you how test-makers think so you can beat them at their own game. Every session targets your weak spots. Plateaus break. Scores jump. Dream schools answer. Let's get to work.
I am a graduate of Emory University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with a minor in Dance and Movement Studies. Throughout college, I have trained extensively tutoring students of various ages across many subjects. As an "Emory Reads" tutor for four years, I helped alleviate education inequality by providing weekly tutoring to students in Atlanta's lowest performing elementary schools to enhance reading comprehension and mathematics skills. I worked with the schools to transition engaged learning to an online format. I am a firm proponent of education, and am committed to providing my students with the best learning experience achievable. I am passionate about helping struggling students face the challenges of early education, and help them build a solid foundation for the future. I also served several semesters working with high school and college-age students. As a Teaching Assistant for college-level physics, I developed a sincere bond with my students as I strived to help them achieve there academic goals. I also worked as a peer-editor for papers and personal statements, as appointed by my professors who recognized my strong writing skills. For three years, I tutored and mentored high school students who were passionate about pursuing the sciences in college. I helped them through their AP coursework, preparing for standardized tests, and the college application process. I have worked with students to get into Ivy League universities, Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, and more. I am looking forward to being able to helping every student reach their personal potential, and sharing the joy of eventual success!
Howdy! My name is Karthik, and I look forward to meeting you. I've been tutoring for over 10 years, and am excited to give you the tools to achieve success! I've seen it all, from frustrated parents who need their 8 year old to learn how to read, to high school/college students just needing a grade boost to pass a class, to retirees who finally have enough time to pick up that language they never got around to. I've personally taken courses on, passed tests for, and used the knowledge in real life for all the subjects I tutor, so I know not just how to learn, but also how to apply. If you'd like to get your personlized gameplan to never need tutoring again, help me help you and book a session today!
I am a summa cum laude graduate from the University of Florida, where I majored in Chemistry and minored in Physics. With experience as a teaching assistant for general, organic, and inorganic chemistry, I hope to make the daunting STEM coursework that pushes students away from their academic or professional goals more approachable. I take a personalized, learner-based approach to teaching, using structured practice to identify content gaps and equip students with the strategies and key tools that bring results on test day. I strongly believe that anybody can find success in chemistry and physics; it's simply a matter of approach. When I'm not studying, I enjoy producing music digitally using FL Studio!
As an incoming medical student (starting 2026) and a graduate in Biological Sciences from SUNY Binghamton, I utilize a unique student-focused approach to tutoring. With over two years of experience in premed subjects (including MCAT topics) ranging from introductory biology to organic chemistry I specialize in breaking down complex topics into manageable concepts. My teaching philosophy is built on fostering a supportive environment where I adapt to each student's learning style, ensuring they not only achieve their academic goals but also develop a deeper appreciation for the material.
Scoring well on the MCAT requires more than content mastery — it demands the ability to synthesize biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and critical reading under extreme time pressure. Miya's microbiology and immunology background covers the science sections deeply, and her experience tutoring English and reading gives her a practical edge when coaching the CARS section. She builds study plans around each student's weakest content areas and drills passage-based reasoning from day one.
As a medical student who has already cleared both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, Jiatian knows the MCAT's content landscape from the other side — which biochemistry pathways, physics concepts, and psychology theories actually matter most and how the exam tests them. She teaches a question-attack strategy for CARS and the science sections that trains students to extract key data from dense passages before even looking at answer choices. Her Rice University science background and firsthand board exam experience mean she can connect MCAT topics to the bigger picture of what medical schools expect.
I am a current osteopathic medical student with a strong passion for teaching science in a way that feels approachable and understandable. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a deep understanding of subjects including biology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, immunology, and neuroscience, and I enjoy helping students build both confidence and mastery in these areas. I scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT Biology section and have experience breaking down complex concepts into simple, memorable explanations tailored to each student's learning style. In addition to tutoring, I have worked in educational settings including academic mentoring and tutoring, where I learned the importance of patience, encouragement, and individualized teaching strategies. My approach focuses on helping students truly understand material rather than memorize facts. I work to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing critical thinking skills, and gaining confidence in their abilities. Whether a student needs help preparing for exams, strengthening foundational concepts, or improving study strategies, I aim to make learning engaging and less overwhelming. Beyond academics, I have also contributed to scientific research, including publication work involving peripheral peptides and neuroscience-related topics. My background in medicine and research allows me to connect scientific concepts to real-world applications and clinical relevance. I enjoy working with students at many levels, including middle school, high school, college, and pre-medical students, and I am especially passionate about helping students succeed in the sciences and achieve their long-term goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who provide personalized 1-on-1 instruction tailored to your MCAT goals and timeline. Your tutor will assess your strengths and weaknesses across the four sections (Chemical and Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Psychological Concepts, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills), then create a customized study plan. Sessions can focus on content review, practice problem strategies, full-length exam simulations, or test-taking techniques—whatever helps you prepare most effectively.
Score improvement depends on your starting point, study consistency, and how much time you dedicate to practice between sessions. Many students see meaningful gains by targeting their weakest sections and refining their test-taking strategy—especially in areas like pacing and question interpretation. A tutor helps you identify exactly where you're losing points and gives you tools to address those gaps systematically, which typically leads to more efficient progress than studying alone.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS) section challenges many students because it requires quick comprehension and inference from dense passages—it's less about memorization and more about reading strategy. The science sections (Chemical/Physical and Biological Sciences) often trip up students who haven't practiced applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios. A tutor can help you develop section-specific strategies, whether that's improving your passage annotation technique for CARS or learning to recognize question patterns in the sciences.
Practice tests are essential—they're the best way to identify your weak areas, build test-day stamina, and get comfortable with the MCAT's pacing and question formats. The MCAT is a 7.5-hour exam, so full-length practice tests help you develop the endurance and mental strategy you'll need. Your tutor can review your practice test results with you, pinpoint patterns in your mistakes, and adjust your study plan accordingly, making each practice test a learning opportunity rather than just a diagnostic.
Most students benefit from 3-4 months of structured preparation, though your ideal timeline depends on your baseline knowledge and target score. Some students with strong science backgrounds prepare in 8-10 weeks, while others need 5-6 months to build foundational content knowledge. A tutor can help you create a realistic study schedule based on your starting point, available study hours per week, and test date, ensuring you're preparing efficiently without burning out.
Test anxiety often stems from feeling unprepared or uncertain about your strategy—tutoring addresses both. By building genuine competence through targeted practice and teaching you specific test-taking techniques (like how to manage your time and approach difficult questions), you'll feel more confident on test day. Your tutor can also help you develop mental strategies for staying calm under pressure, such as identifying which questions to tackle first and how to recover from a tough section.
Look for tutors with strong MCAT scores themselves, ideally 510 or higher (the median score is around 501-502), and experience helping multiple students prepare successfully. They should understand the test's structure deeply and be able to explain complex science concepts clearly. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have proven track records in MCAT preparation and can demonstrate their expertise across all four sections.
Your first session is an assessment and planning meeting. Your tutor will likely review your MCAT goals, target score, and test date, then discuss your background in science and any previous test attempts. You might take a diagnostic practice test or work through sample questions together to identify your strongest and weakest areas. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of your starting point and a customized study plan moving forward.
