This May I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Classics summa cum laude. Next year I will be proceeding to Oxford University to study for a master’s degree in Greek and Latin languages and literature. In High School I tutored students in a number of subjects, including Latin and English. In college, as head of the Blues Department at the radio station, I taught seminars on the history of blues music to other undergraduates. I am most interested in tutoring students in Latin or in English literature. I can also teach elementary Ancient Greek to any interested students. My strengths include language, writing, and literary analysis. I can also offer test prep help to students struggling with the SAT writing or critical reading sections, or the subject tests and AP Exams in Latin or English Literature. My philosophy is that students who are happy, engaged, and excited about the material, regardless of ability level, are the best learners. For test prep, this means avoiding the hysteria that many feel about the exams and focusing on the material itself with a realistic view of how to get the most out of the test. For Latin and English Literature, this means forgetting about right and wrong and discovering the joy of interpretation and of language. Outside of academics I am interested in guitar playing and the history of American popular music.
