9+ years of tutoring
Veronica
- My passion for math and reading started at a very young age, but I quickly understood these subjects aren't fun for everyone.
About Me
I started tutoring my peers in elementary school, and went on to organize formal peer tutoring groups in middle and high school, to help bridge gaps between teachers' expectations and my peers' reality. I've used my lifelong passion for math and problem solving to obtain my Master's degree in Computer Science, but I know that without a solid background in math and reading, my advanced degree would have been difficult to achieve. I prefer students to understand, from their unique point of view, why 1+1=2, why x*y=z or why "knock" only has one 'k' sound. Kids have a lot going on in their academic and personal lives, so I take time to talk to my students, take a few steps back from the problem and understand how they're tackling the problem. I've found that this conversation facilitates my understanding of how the student learns, and lends to their deeper understanding of concepts to apply to future, independent problem solving.
