About Me
After studying French in school and obtaining a Bachelors from Ithaca College, I worked in France teaching English as a second language to French high school students for an academic year. I enjoy working one-on-one because it allows for the most progress to be made. When I am working with students, I like to keep it relevant for them - particularly when it comes to languages. I do this by talking with them about what their endgame might be for the skill and find out how being able to communicate in the target language (for example) will help them in their lives. Additionally, I use subject matter that relates to the student's interests, when possible. For example, when I was teaching in France, I brought in Beatles songs to study, so we could connect and also learn about the context of the song and have a real discussion about it. We can use the student's interest to connect to the content. Because the goal of languages is to be able to communicate, express oneself and understand messages (i.e. reading content), using material that relates to the student's interests and goals will help this idea make sense to the student. I have lived and worked abroad and have traveled considerably. I also have another bachelors in Photography and a minor in Journalism. I work as a professional photographer, producing images for advertising and editorial uses. I love to dance and still tap dance.
