After graduating, I taught college English full-time for 5 years before taking a hiatus when my son was born. I now pursue my love for English and teaching by essay grading for the SAT and tutoring students. I'm passionate about sharing what inspires me. I get excited about literature and writing (even grammar!), and enjoy figuring out how to transfer that excitement to students. It's wonderful seeing the way knowledge changes students; it alleviates stress, builds confidence, broadens the mind, and can even bring a great amount of joy. In order to facilitate this excitement in learning, I connect content to what interests students and tailor lessons to their individual learning styles. I pull from a variety of teaching methods, including visual (PowerPoint, videos, pictures), auditory (lecture, discussion, sound recordings), and hands-on (activities, games, practice problems). I have found that adjusting these methods to each student's needs one-on-one is the best way to spark not only content comprehension, but also a love of learning.
