I believe there is an interpersonal relationship that develops between a tutor and his student that is much harder to achieve in a school setting. I believe the potential for learning in a one on one environment far surpasses a classroom setting because of the mentor relationship that forms between a tutor and his student. In high school, I was in the position of a student that needed academic help but could not find it in the classroom. It was after a family friend that was also a tutor devoted their time and energy to helping me succeed that I was able to truly learn. He is still my close friend to this day and I hope to emulate his impact to me onto my future students.
