Every student is unique in his or her own amazing way and offers a key ingredient to the world becoming a better place. It's my desire as an educator to assist students in meeting their fullest potential emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. A safe learning environment is essential to children's development, which is created by the teacher who acts as a guide for students on their journey of academic success. When students are given access to hands-on activities and given adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied, an opportunity for individual discovery has been created. Developing a curriculum around student interests fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. One way to take learning into a direction relevant to student interest is to invite student dialogue about the lessons and units of study. When students have ownership in the curriculum, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals. Helping students to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment occurs through an open sharing of ideas and a judicious approach to discipline. I believe children have greater respect for their teachers, their peers, and the lessons presented in class when they feel safe and sure of what is expected of them. Teaching includes assisting students in developing a respect for life, themselves, others, their environment, and their world. As an educator I have been given the opportunity to guide children into becoming compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working hard to reach their dreams and aspirations and developing a passion for learning. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs.
