About Me

Teaching is my passion. Empowering people to find and build their skills and achieve success is the most important thing I can do as a teacher and mentor. I graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in Political Science, and International Relations and a Master of Education focused on inclusive classrooms and education technology. Over 20+ years of teaching experience has included a variety of environments: AP and GATE in Northern California, Title 1 classrooms in Southern California, and ESL tutoring in Japan. I have extensive expertise with test preparation (AP, GED, HSEE, CBEST, Praxis, and CSET) and have tutored students internationally. I have also taught guitar and voice. I believe that everyone can learn and that we all do. I use a variety of methods to achieve this including: discussion, comparison, role playing, recitation, deconstruction of material, writing, reading, and real-life connections. As a tutor on many subjects, I most enjoy History and Literature. Many possibilities for critical thinking exist in these two subjects. I have found this opens opportunities for students to bring their own knowledge and background to the classroom, which allows us all to grow personally. Beyond teaching, I enjoy traveling and have been to Europe and Japan, and many states in the U.S. I like to spend time playing guitar and piano to accompany my voice and I love theater, musicals, and movies. I can teach you the tools to make learning fun and help you to achieve success at the same time.
