I do this in order to determine where any fundamental misunderstandings exist. I find that in most instances, confused students are unclear on one or two simple, yet important ideas. Clearing these up, and deliberately following their implications, can make students have a much better level of understanding while also feeling confident in their knowledge. This processes defines my style of teaching.
