My philosophy as a mathematics tutor consists of two imperatives: content knowledge and communication. I do not believe someone can successfully explain a subject without first having a deep and thorough understanding of the subject themself. However, someone can have all the knowledge in the world, but it would be useless if they could not patiently and efficiently instruct others. When it comes to math tutoring, I am particularly qualified in both regards.
In June, I graduated summa cum laude in Mathematics from the Honors College at the University of Oregon (GPA: 4.02). In my education, I studied both a broad and deep mathematical curriculum, received a fellowship to conduct mathematical research in knot theory, and aced Calculus 7 (...just kidding about that last one). I have taken several graduate-level math courses and plan on continuing my academics by earning a Ph.D. in math education. (If it's not obvious, I have a thing for math.)
I was a math tutor at my university for three years. I tutored education majors taking a rigorous mathematics content course. So not only did I tutor math, but I tutored for a course designed to provide students with the knowledge to be effective teachers. This has equipped me with the necessary pedagogical understanding to patiently and knowledgeably explain complicated subjects in easy-to-grasp terms.
In short, I am a tutor who knows what I'm talking about, knows how to explain it, and can do it in a relatable way. Whether your child is struggling or overachieving in their math class, I want to help them better understand andhopefullyappreciate mathematics.
