Aymun

Certified Tutor

I am currently a sophomore, pre-med student at The University of Texas at Dallas with a major in Neuroscience. Before attending UTD, I was a student at the University of Georgia. I have extensive experience in tutoring and have had my own private tutoring business since I was in high school. I started out by working with students in high school, helping them with homework and SAT Test Prep. I expanded my clientele to middle and elementary school student in 11th grade and started working with local students. Soon after, I joined Varsity. The most important part of tutoring students is working on their level. I believe every student has great potential and there are certain techniques I have learned through experience to harness that potential. In high school, I was an active member of the Debate Team which taught me how to lead and assist my younger peers. Although I tutor a broad range of subjects, I have seen most advancement in my students in the subjects of English/Language Arts and Math. Whether it is SAT Test Prep for Critical Reading and Math or it is AP English or AP Calc homework from school. My personal hobbies include reading, writing and slam poetry. I am currently working on a novella, which I hope to publish soon. I am also a member of the National DFW Slam Poetry Team. I fully believe that an investment in education is an investment in your child's future.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe every student has the potential for success, and there are certain techniques I have learned through experience that harness that potential. I believe that an investment in education is an investment your future.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First sessions are primarily introductory. I get to know the student, and more importantly, the student gets to know me. It is important to establish a connection with the student so you can truly understand their struggles and can help them accordingly. Next, we go through their materials. We figure out strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, we devise study tactics and see what suits the students. This could be note-taking, note cards, online quizzing platforms, or a variety of other techniques to ensure the student's success in the subject they need help in. Finally, we would lay out a schedule. Organization is one of the key factors of success. If the student and I are both on the same page about the material, meeting arrangements, and study habits, then we have had a successful first day!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

There are a variety of techniques that I can teach the student to become an independent learner. Independence begins with confidence in oneself. I would begin by teaching the student good note-taking skills, the ability to seek help when needed, and the importance of staying focused. When the student has set goals and proper techniques, being an independent learner is easy.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation is one of the key factors to success. Motivation stems from inside the student, and as a tutor, it is my job to show the student their potential. Once the student recognizes their potential of success and the importance that education has on them and their future, motivation follows suit. Some of my motivation tactics are daily reminders, whether through emails or set reminders in the student's phone. This helps them remember their goals and stay motivated to achieve them.
