I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Corbin

Certified Tutor

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Irish Language and Literature from the University of Notre Dame. Following graduation, I taught high school science and religion courses in Ogden, Utah. During this time I earned my Master of the Arts in Teaching degree from the University of Portland which licensed me to teach at the secondary level. I now study Type I Diabetes in a research laboratory in Seattle, Washington, and I plan to use this experience to pursue a Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience (the study of how we form and access memories). My interest in neuroscience fuels my philosophy of education. I think all students have a profound capacity to learn and my role as an educator is to help the student unlock their potential. In my time as a teacher and even during my own education, I had the opportunity to work with many peers and students to help them reach their goals. Most of my experience is in math and science tutoring, which I enjoy tremendously. There is nothing quite like reaching the point where a new understanding opens up a new way of looking at the world, and I find these moments in math and science. In my free time I enjoy reading or spending time outdoors and if possible, both at the same time. I also can be found cheering loudly for a variety of sports teams; my favorite being my own Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Finally, I love my Irish heritage, and I happily celebrate all things Irish, from the beautiful language, to the unique sports, to the masterful poetry, to my mother's homemade Irish pastie.
