I have worked as a chemistry and science teacher 7th thru 11th grades in Ohio. I have been in different positions in school setting, science department head, Science fair organizer, STEM coordinator, assistant director and principal. I have prepared students for local, national and international science fairs. I worked with all students with different levels. I understand sometimes how hard chemistry or science could be. I work with my students gradually and patiently. I analyze the struggle and focus on what my student needs. I believe every student can succeed if we approach with right direction. In my experience tutoring struggling students change their perspective for subjects they are having hard time. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy watching movie and reading that which enriches my life, walking, running, and travel with my family.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Every student can learn and be successful.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first thing is to know the student you will teach. Teachers should determine what the student needs and focus on these needs.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teachers need to provide opportunities that students can do by themselves and allow the student to present their work.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Teachers needs to show positive reinforcement, celebrate the success with the student, and teach them how to learn from their mistakes.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Teachers need to focus on the small steps that the student can accomplish and differentiate the lessons accordingly.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Teachers need to find out the student's reading level with a standardized test and create a program that the student can benefit step by step. The steps are small, but strong.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Trust would be the first strategy to gain a student's attention.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I think a hands-on strategy would be first. I do, we do, and you do would be nice for students having a hard time focusing.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Practicing with the student would be nice. It will be nice to provide an opportunity where the student could present his or her work.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Using different teaching strategies and presenting understanding will help students to gain confidence.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Formative assessments will help and guide us as to how we can address student's needs before we finish the chapter.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Knowing student's needs before tutoring starts will help the teacher to tailor the teaching and focus. A written or verbal formative assessment would be nice.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Teachers need to know and use classroom materials they've used before and create similar materials to practice with the student.
