Neiunna

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Talladega College, where I received my Bachelor's of Art in Biology. After receiving, my B.A. I went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Howard University in Biology with a emphasis in Microbiology and Nanotechnology. While at Howard, I taught courses in General Microbiology, Pathogenic Bacteriology and Food Microbiology. In addition, to teaching I also lead study groups in Microbiology and instructed students in independent research projects. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I conduct research in food safety and Microbiology. In this position, I am the lead Microbiologist in a USDA-funded project which examines the safety of pre-harvest produce in organic agricultural environments. In the position, I also train and mentor numerous undergraduate students in Microbiology, lab protocol and food safety. I will tutor in Biology, Life Science and Science, however I am very passionate about Microbiology. In my experience, each student is unique and no one person has the same learning style, so it is important to first find out how a student thinks before you teach them. Science has been my favorite subject for as long as I remember and I hope to convey that appreciation to each student I tutor. When I'm not in the lab, in my spare time, my hobbies are playing volleyball, kickball, cooking, playing games, shopping, and watching Netflix.
