I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

Hi my name is Page and I'm a student at MIT! I enjoy tutoring and mentoring students in all levels of math and economics. I participated in two volunteer tutoring programs while in college and they have had a terrific impact on my time here. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, traveling and wearing fun earrings!

My experience tutoring with high school students primarily in math and SAT prep has taught me that students learn best and have the most fun when they aren't afraid to make mistakes. Because of that, I work hard to build a relationship with my students based on the ideas that learning should be fun, that it's ok not to know the answer, and to never to afraid to ask questions. I think because of this, students feel comfortable and confident when learning new material.

What is your teaching philosophy?

The best way to learn is to not be afraid to make mistakes!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Take a few minutes to talk about what the student feels are their strengths, their weaknesses, what their goals are, and what their interests are outside of academics. From there, we might do a few practice problems just to get a feel for how the student learns, and so they can see my style of tutoring!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them how to stay organized, helpful study tips, and remind them never to be afraid to ask questions!

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Always take time to set goals, and then take time to reflect and appreciate the progress we have made towards those goals.
