I am a graduate of Sweet Briar college with a B.A. in History and a minor in Medieval Renaissance Studies. I am also a graduate of Charlotte School of Law. I'm a lawyer, and History Major - I passed the South Carolina the first time, graduated from Law School and College with great grades! I have many hobbies that I do in my free time I love to read, watch movies, and bake. My favorite thing to do is play with my puppy Scout and kitty Luna! Scout is a hand full, and packed with puppy energy and love -- always waiting with a smile at the door when I get home! Luna is my sweet and lovable kitty who has been with me through the tough days of law school.
While in Law School I found tutoring opportunities in the Charlotte area helping with a variety of study areas primarily elementary math, history, and geography. I know how to study and I would love the opportunity to help others learn and grow. My favorite subjects are history and the law because those areas are where my education has been centered. I especially loved contract, property, and constitutional law.
My tutoring philosophy is that each learning experience is different but given the chance History and the law can be interesting subjects! I look forward to working with students soon!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that every student is different and every student can learn - the trick is just figuring out the best way for each individual student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
There are several important components to a first session with a student. The first session is critical to assess the needs of the student, and for me as the tutor to get to know the student. I believe that the more at ease both teacher and student are, the easier it is to help with learning.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I try to teach through the Socratic method, asking guiding questions to help the student remember and learn in an independent way.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I think it is important for a student to have a goal when learning, whether that is to get a good grade, to understand the material, etc. Having a goal, and clear steps towards maintaining that goal, is the best way for a student to stay motivated.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Work to find a different approach. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. It might take some struggles on both the tutor and student to find an approach that works, but as long as the student is willing to work, I believe there is always going to be a way for them to learn.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
The important first step to assess reading comprehension is asking the student to explain in their own words what they just read. Then, if the material is unclear, I would ask leading questions to help what is unclear become clear.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Though I tend to want to just explain a particular answer, the most successful method I've found is asking questions of the student and using what they know to help them work their way toward learning a particular subject or arriving at a correct answer.
